The University of Texas at Austin, where Goodenough served as an engineering professor, confirmed his demise on Sunday.

Widely acknowledged as a dedicated public servant, sought-after mentor, and humble inventor, Goodenough's breakthroughs have revolutionized various aspects of modern technology. In 2019, at the age of 97, he was honored with the Nobel Prize in chemistry for his remarkable advancements in battery technology, particularly the creation of the lithium-ion battery.
